Anesthesia, Surgery, Endoscopy

Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery

At LIBEVC we do it all. Dr. Malka is one of the leading avian and exotics endoscopists in the field.

We have the most advanced video endoscope and several rigid endo-scopes. Several procedures we specialize in are:

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (endoscope guided biopsy, mass removal, foreign body removal etc.) for birds, reptilians and amphibians, fish and small mammals.

  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Endoscopic “spaying and castration” for birds and reptiles.

  • Endoscope guided dentistry for rabbits and other small mammals

  • Endoscope guided intubation for anesthesia

What is an Endoscope?

While the technology itself is complex, the purpose behind endoscopes is actually simple.

Endoscopy is a medical procedure performed when doctors need to explore a patient’s insides – unlike x-rays or scans, endoscopy provides a clearer internal view to identify problems.

Endoscopic technology today allows direct optically controlled access to numerous internal organs without surgical intervention. The approaches are either through natural bodily openings or can be created by means of small incisions.

What other uses do Endoscopes Offer?

Endoscopes are used for more than just exploratory procedures – they are also vital for surgical tasks. Their fine, flexible design allows endoscopes to reach areas otherwise demanding invasive surgery, without the extensive time and physical trauma of standard operations.

Some endoscopes also allow for precise surgical technique, eliminating dead tissue, healing wounds, or creating incisions with much-needed accuracy.  Avian anatomy mandates the use of endoscopy in the examination of the avian patient.
