How to Know if Your Pet Fish Sick?

Do you live in the Bronx, Manhattan, or Queens and need a fish vet for your finny friends? Are you unsure of what to watch out for when caring for your fish? At Long Island Bird & Exotics Veterinary Clinic, we understand marine animals because we love caring for exotic creatures. We have years of experience and a technologically advanced patient care center with diagnostic testing and surgery area.

Signs to watch for in your pet fish

  • Injuries-Ripped fins, sores, open wounds

  • Scale changes-discolored areas, growths, texture changes

  • Behavioral changes-less active, not eating/defecating, laying at the bottom of the tank

  • Films or substances on your fish-slime over scales, cottonball-like material, visible worms

  • Difficulty moving-swimming upside down, difficulty regulating water depth, floating to top of the tank
